Night 9,968– March 3, 2010
It’s the end of an era. That is the second Allen Iverson era. Bringing Allen back was a big mess, but the Sixers are such a big mess this is easily overlooked. The shame of it is, who cares and what’s the point.
Iverson is one of my favorite Sixers of all time and I would have enjoyed watching him play out his career here in Philadelphia. He is nowhere near the player he was but there is something about watching end his career. I don’t find it sad, I find it nostalgic; I can’t help remembering the player as he was, and there are always flashes of greatness. I remember Willie Mays ending his career with the Mets. Once I saw Mays hit a pinch hit home run for the Mets against the Phillies…what a thrill…and I hate the Mets.
Unfortunately, the Sixers are unwatchable. Iverson has countless faults but it’s not his fault this didn’t work. He has family issues and playing for this team is pointless. This whole situation is disappointing.
Here are my ten favorite Sixers in no particular order:
Wilt Chamberlain
Luke Jackson
Wally Jones
Julius Erving
Moses Malone
Andrew Toney
Charles Barkley
Allen Iverson
Chet Walker
Eric Snow
